"Hotel Royal has no casino on site but only slot machines operated by Mocha Club. Grand Lisboa, Ruins of Saint Paul, and Macau Museum are only 20 minutes walk from Hotel Royal. From Hotel Royal, walk left of Estrada Da Vitoria and turn right at Jardin Vasco Da Gama; turn left at Rua Do Ocampo and turn right at Rua Pedro Nolasco da Silva toward Rua S. "Nice & welcoming hotel. Courteous and friendly staff. Clean and spacious family room. Hotel shuttle to Outer Harbour Ferry terminal is handy in order to catch shuttle busses to other hotels. However, Rio’s shuttle service terminates early at night so we have get a cab to return to our hotel. We’ve been told Macau proper is only about 10-15 minutes by foot from Rio but we did not attempt this as we have my elderly mum. Old Macau area is mostly cobbled roads and not so wheelchair- friendly. Our best bet was to get a cab to get to St Paul Ruins & then walk around. Going back it’s hard to find a cab in the area, but we manage to find a bus stop and catch a local bus to Rio. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in Rio Hotel. Concierge service was excellent- thanks to persons like Jason who always was friendly and helpful to hotel guests. "

"Hello, Given the fact we booked last minute and didn't want to spend too much we ended up in the Grand Lapa after taking an online promotion. We had a very good surprise and my kids (4 and 6 years old) wanted to stay longer than the 2 nights we booked for the week-end. It certainly used to be a top 5 stars Hotel but it's ageing now and even though it is still very good you can see it is not all renovated and modern. Pros: - "Old hotel" means pretty spacious bedroom and bathroom which is a plus for us. - Dated but everything was very clean - Heated outside swimming pool with a slide for the kids (even if heated pool, in November you don't stay 2h00 in the water as it gets chilly after 30-45 minutes). - Friendly staff - Nice garden and playroom (though a bit old too) that the kids loved - Close to the Fisherman's Wharf so you can go walking and the kids loved walking there - Taxi available quite easily in front of the hotel - Old downtown Macau and Largo do Senado can be reached walking (but take between 20-30 minutes with the kids). If you take a taxi it literally takes lass than 5 minutes. Cons: - Not too many restaurant close by (but you have 2 or 3 inside the hotel) - You have to cross a public place (but no road) behind the hotel to access the spa/swimming pool, gardens and playroom. It's not really a cons but it's not quick to go back to your room if you forgot something. If you are looking for luxury and last modern commodity, it might not suit you. We are usually staying at 3 star hotels so an old 5 stars hotel was just a perfect stay for us. We would definitely recommend it and would go back again if we have the occasion."

"overall stay with sintra hotel is pleasant, the lobby of the hotel is small but enough to accommodate guests. all our previous requests, were all met like non-smoking rooms, twin beds, luggage storage after our check-out. our room is clean with complete toiletries and slippers. toiletries are refilled generously daily. the feeling is like a home away from home. location of hotel is great, walking distance to senado square, ruins of st. paul and st. dominic's church. the only thing i don't like in this hotel is when they asked me to sign a credit card slip for a 500mop deposit. my hotel accommodation was already prepaid, so i asked them the purpose of this, they said that is for incidental expenses. in case i don't incur any, they will return it. so when we checked-out, i paid in cash for what we incurred and they returned the credit card slip with cancelled stamped on it."

"Check-in speedy. No problem with Agoda booking. Got free upgrade - a pleasant surprise! Bed is comfortable. Bath tub is a bonus after a long walk during the day. Hot water is very consistent. Can fill whole tub with same temperature hot water. TV channels excellent variety. About 30 channels including some English (HBO, Discovery, Bloomberg, ESPN) and Japanese channels. Room was cleaned everyday in my 3 nights stay even though didn't request it. Towels were changed daily too. Taxi from airport around HKD80-85 for 4 of us with luggage. Luggage is charged separately. I bargained and got it for HKD80 inclusive of luggage. So, if only 2 people with luggage, price should be slightly lower. Free transfer to ferry terminal. From ferry terminal, can take free shuttle to Venetian (to explore Taipa area). Taxi to St Paul Ruins around HKD 13 to 20, depending on traffic. Our flight was late at night and we requested to use the bathroom and pool at fitness floor (5th floor) even after check out, which was granted. The casino at hotel is not very interesting if you like slots. Very few selection of not-so-new machines. There is a roulette and a SIC BO machine with cheap minimum bet of HKD 5 only. Plenty of Baccarat tables as Baccarat is the most popular game for the people there. But no worries even if you are a slot machines player as just around the corner (about 300m walk) is Oceanus with much more choices of good combination of slot machines. A little bit more walk across the bridge (500m) is Sands Casino. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness, comfortable beds, heated indoor pool & great service by the receptionists and concierge. Oh, we even got a good deal from the concierge for a van to send us to airport (due to additional luggage after shopping, can't fit into a taxi) for only HKD 150. "
