“Run down ready for a refresh! ”
We have stayed here before and at the time thought it was run down. 14 years later we got a great deal and thought we would give it a go as generally hotels will do a refresh every 10 or so years. Unfortunately that was not the case at all. There were stains on the bedding. The TV’s in both our rooms didn’t work (we mentioned it and they fixed it.. the next day it wasn’t working again). The bathrooms had open drains in the floor, shower heads weren’t great. The rooms had a bath but no plug, the sink was starting to crumble away and there were stains in the bench top. They would collect towels and clean them and bring them back later in the day so at times you’d find yourself without a towel. Our room had a big hole in the wall where the cables came through the wall for the TV. This want an issue as such for us as we have older kids, but a little one would easily find them. The mattresses were very firm and you could feel the springs. They are very ready for replacement as you could feel the dips in the bed from where people have slept. The house keeping staff were really lovely. I had to call for assistance one night as my son vomited and they were there in minutes assisting with fresh bedding and mopping of the floor. The pool areas are quite nice. Again in the older side. There are 3 pools and 2 have swim up bars where you can order drinks and food. Reasonably priced for a hotel. Pool towels were like gold, rare to find. We managed to get 2 towels between the 4 of us. So BYO pool towels. Room service food was lovely and hot when it arrived. They had a great selection from western to Indonesian favs. The buffet breakfast was .. not great. We ate there once and the rest of the time we ate elsewhere. The hot selection was bland and flavourless. The eggs were good & you can make your own toast. Juice was available along with cereal and fresh fruit. I didn’t see any real coffee on offer and the staff in the restaurant weren’t very helpful, they were more interested in chatting amongst themselves than attending to guests (we noticed this a few days as we walked past to seek out a good breakfast and coffee, so it wasn’t a once off. The location is amazing as you can walk into the streets or out to the beach. The reception staff were always friendly and helpful. It was nice to be welcomed back each day with a positive friendly smile. While there are a lot of negatives, the question is would I stay there again? I probably wouldn’t unless we got a really cheap deal. We have visited Bali almost annually for the past 20 years and have stayed in a few different places so I know what we could potentially expect but clean sheets, no holes in walls, working TV’s and bathrooms that are clean are what we expect at minimum. Comfortable beds and pillows are a bonus along with a good breakfast buffet .
