Nea Kidonia hotels & places to stay

On arrival at this hotel we were told our room would not be available until the next day! We were transferred to another hotel, no where near the same standard and given a small, shabby, sub standard room the worst We have ever stayed in! It over looked a busy road that along with air conditioning not working made it impossible to sleep! The following day we were transferred back to the hotel we had booked , our room was still not ready! By now we had lost the best part of two days out of our seven moving in and out! This was not acceptable! The only compensation offered was two massages which we were unable to use due to medical concerns! I want everyone that is thinking of booking Santa Marina plaza to know that you may have the same problem- not getting what you have booked and paid for!! Agoda please look into this- we would like answers?

Service was subpar and often unhelpful with many extra fees. When I picked a beach resort for a part of our vacation, I thought this place would be a nice retreat at a moderate price given that it's suppose to be a "4 star resort" but we were really disappointed and will never return. So many extra fees --5 euros per day to use the empty lounge chairs across their private beach (now I know why the noisy pool was always filled with people despite the cars zooming by --not relaxing!) $10 per buffet meal if you don't do all-inclusive (we didn't) but it's actually 12 euros for the dinner on Thursday because there is a live band. Also, 10 euros deposit to use each beach towel, and if you lose your flimsy little receipt, too bad. Is it their plan to have people steal the towels so that anyone returning it won't get their money back? Isn't the lounge chair and live band a part of the resort thing? The guy who walked us to our room in silence seemed to wait for a tip but he didn't even offer to carry our bags. Maybe service was crap because we weren't all-inclusive since we just had the bed and breakfast plan only. At first, I asked if we could switch that meal for a lunch or dinner later because one day we went on an extra-fee excursion, but the front desk basically talked around it for 10 minutes, saying she needed to talk to her boss and it could be an extra charge. I asked for a follow up answer but I never heard from her again. Rude. We and other excursion goers were allowed a quick breakfast of yogurt and cold cuts (no cooked foods) early that day so when I asked for something similar on our departure day because of an early flight, they said yes but then didn't set it up (the overnight worker put out some yogurt after we asked). We asked about cabs to town (basic questions here!) and there was a new answer every day. This place is an OK place but there are cheaper options that don't claim to be a 4 star.

I cannot express enough how delightful was our stay at Eliros. It's perfectly located: close to beautiful Chania and more "busy" towns like Agia Marina and Platanias. You can get to any of them with a quick bus ride (the bus stop is located at the main street, a short walk from the hotel). If you have a car then you're in a perfect spot to visit the entire west part of the island. The entire hotel is very clean, with spacious rooms - each offers a STUNNING sea/island view that we couldn't get enough of. We loved having our meals on our balcony. The kitchen part of our studio offered everything you need to prepare them. The pool area is lovely - it may look shallow on photos but it's actually deep enough (varies from 1m to 2.6m) for adults to swim. Plus the view from the pool... Incredible. Finally, the personnel. Maria, who runs the hotel, is such a sweet and kind person - we love her! Thank you, Maria (and your family) for making our stay so wonderful! Kindest Regards!

We very strongly recommend Elma's Dream Apartments . Our apartment was nice and clean, personnel very polite and helpful. Hotel has free wi-fi , swimming pool, bar, small billiard table and lovely friendly dog. It is two minutes walking to the nice sandy beach. If you also like nice views you can go along the beach and up small rocks, walk on cliffs with beautifull scenery, going along ( took us an hour) you can get to another beach which actually is located ten minutes from the first one when walking on the road. If you decide to go opposite direction you can get to the Chania city which takes around 20 min.walking. 3 min. from the hotel you will find small shops where you can buy everything from swimming equipment to alcohol and food as well as rent a car. However we would recommend to walk a bit further as in about 15 min walking distance you have two big supermarkets with good prices. One of them is Lidl and the other local Inka. Next to Lidl is a bowling centre with mini golf, pool table and a Bar. Crete has lots of things to offer but to see them we recommend renting a car. We were there at the end of the season and for renting a small hyundai for 3 days paid 70EUR . Manual cars are generally cheaper than automatics. Roads are quite wide but do not be tempted because on national motorway they have speed cameras in some places ( usually after second camera warning sign :-) ). So when you will have a car you must visit Phalasarna beach as well as Elafonissi. Rethymnon is also worth site to visit, it is only 1.5 hour drive from Chania and the main thing we would recommend to see is the Fortress located by the harbour. You can park your car for free below the fortress. There is a paid parking close by if you want to spent few euros.

We have had a very nice stay in Elektra beach hotel. The man at the reception was very helpful. The breakfast is very good and extensive. The breakfastroom was too small for all th hotelguests and i was annoying every morning beeing there with al those other guests. the seats inside the breakfast room was one against the other from another table. Outside the breakfastroom sitting was beautiful but unfortunately there was only space for a few people

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. Thank you to  Janis (I think I spelt it incorrectly, sorry), he was very nice and did everything that he could to make it comfortable. Location is good - is 15- 20 min bus drive to Chania. Bus stop is near by. Nice beach is across the road with a couple of restaurants. The villa is located on the top of the hill, so you need to walk up the hill 200m or so. Accommodation- I personally booked this hotel as a lot of people were commenting on good mattress which for me is important. Personally I still found it a bit hard for my liking, but more comfortable compare to other hotels that we stayed in on this trip. Room is nice with the view. Bathroom a bit dated with small shower but clean. Breakfast  - if breakfast is not included in your package, go for it anyway as it is really nice. We had breakfast at the local restaurants but at the villa Georgia is better :) and cost the same.

This was our introduction to Crete and it was perfect. We were slightly off season so the area was relatively quiet and we were focused on hiking so out of the main area for the majority of the time. Our hosts at the Tree of Life were amazing, we arrived late but it was no problem and our check in was efficient despite the late hour and finished with the offer of drinks and socialising at their cute poolside bar but we were too jet lagged to accept ! Angelikki gave a personalised service, nothing too much trouble at all ! Since we were 'up and out early ' guests we only has breakfast (included) on 2 occasions but on check out she insisted on deducting the ones we missed which was certainly not her obligation. Our only regret is we could not have socialised more in the evening as they relish this as hosts and it is a forte of the establishment . Thoroughly recommended as a place to stay.

I booked this hotel with seasonal discount. However, all services such as drink bar are not included.Since the price of room was admended thus they offered you a room which far away from reception without any seaview .Old housing decoration and dark made you uncomfortable. The taste and choices of food in restaurant are fair. The location is not good. If you are the first time to go CRETE by driving a car. Plx don't rent this hotel, otherwise you need spend for 3 hours for finding. I called the staff for help when we didn't know how to access. However,he told me roughly and said" It is very simple ar" All in all, if you want to enjoy their normal services, plx don't book it with special price since you will very disappointed.

Running a Guesthouse in Cape Town ourselves, we know from our own experience what guests like and dislike. We had a fantastic stay at the family run Dinyssos Hotel. On arrival we received a very warm welcome by the staff, with free welcome drinks and information about the hotel and how to explore the area, all done by the owner Dionyssos himself. The garden and pool area are absolutely beautiful with plenty of flowers, fruit trees and shaded loungers. The pool is lovely and large, always plenty of space. The rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished, each with a small kitchenette and balcony. Free WiFi reception was good in all areas of the hotel. SadlyTV was too small and had channels only in Greek languages. The beds are very comfortable, we slept like in heaven since the area around the hotel is very quiet. The breakfast buffet was very good, with many choices of high quality food (fresh fruits,fresh orange juice, cereals, hot and cold breakfast, local dishes omelette on request.......) The staff at reception helped us greatly when we had to deal with a problem of our hired car. They made phone calls in our behalf, copied and printed documents for us. We always found safe parking outside on the street in front of the hotel. The majority of guests come on a travel package from Scandinavia, but we have also seen a few guests who stayed as individual travelers like us. You have the choice of 4 of Crete's most beautiful sandy beaches all in walking distance. There are good Restaurants in walking distance too, you can take the public bus to Chania or Platanias with lots of shopping opportunities there. There is a Lidl supermarket in the next road just 5 min walk from the hotel. We wished we stayed for longer since this area of Crete has lots of attractions and nice beaches. When we arrived, wich was late, there was no one there. We had to go to a bar nearby and ask for help, he guided us to their family resturant next door. The appartment itself is of the simpler kind, doesnt really look like the pictures on the booking site, but its ok. But its fair price and sentral location makes up for it. The lady who owns these appartments is the one doing the "housekeeping", she is nice and trustworthy. We also got the aircondition and safebox for free. The wifi connection is jumpy. Her husband is running their family resturant next to it, the food is allright. All in all a nice stay and a very kind family, we felt safe and taken care of.
