Salak Phet Bay hotels & places to stay

It was really best hotel I have ever stay before! Not 5, 6 or 7 stars!!! So nice and stylish, everything is made of wood, room is amazing (superior room): really huge with a soft bed, coffee machine and several varieties of tea and coffee, cookies and many snacks, aroma lamp with a pleasant lemongrass smell. When I have arrived- senior manager met me and showed everything they have (private island with a transfer and kayaking, pool, gym, sauna, spa...). When I decided to have kayaking- staff had transfered me to a private island waited for me all the time I was there. After kayaking when I came back to my room I had found there 2 desserts for me and my honey. Great surprise!! So, if you are still not sure which hotel to choose- this one is really the BEST hotel in Koh Chang!! I recommend!!!!!! The second 5 stars hotel in Koh Chang Amari is much worse!! We had compared it both, Amari concedes on many criterias.

I will start with one advantage/disadvantage, it is at the end of the island on east coast, so if you like quiet it's perfect, but if you like lots of tourist pubs, lots of people than it is wrong place. All the rest I think for the price is the best you can get, the level of room was 3 star hotel (in Germany), clean, we paid cheapest rate and we got at the begging better room than standard. The whole place is on the water, with great view. Staff took us with boat to the beach, where we stayed just with one more guy if you want to leave it you just rent a motorbike and you can see the island. We visited whole island and in my opinion, the best beach is long beach, the most natural, to this beach this is the closest place. And last thing, food is just amazing, not the cheapest, but comparing to european prices it's effordable for the quality.

My wife and I stayed here last month ad we have only positive things to say about it. It is situated on a beautiful and quiet bay on the less developed Eastern side of the island. While it may be too remote for some it was perfect for us. We had a lovely spacious room on the hillside right by the pool with great views of the bay. Also outside the room was a nice jungle walking path, perfect for walking our dog. There are other rooms literally on the water that looked very nice too, but weren't suitable for us as pet owners. The food was very good and Dieter and his staff were gracious and welcoming hosts. The owner was extremely helpful about local sites to go and explore. The resort also rented us a small boat for one of the days at a very reasonable cost. Great for exploring the lovely islands and beaches in the bay. A real highlight. This is certainly a great place for those who are looking for quiet and are more interested in exploring the area than going out for a big night. It is worth noting this resort is waterside, but is not on a beach, which may not suit some. It was, however, perfect for our needs and comes highly recommended.

According with our personal rating, this hotel`s score is 10 out of 10. Or maybe it is not honest... Because this is not a "hotel" as we used to think about it. It is, as somebody has already written in reviews, “home away from home” or like house of your dear friends where everybody is ready to help you about everything. And where you are always a welcome guest. There is no need to describe rooms, location, food, atmosphere in The Mangrove Hideaway. Everything is great and excellent! Before visiting this hotel, keep in mind that it is located on eastern coast of Ko Chang which is not as tourist as western one. The Mangrove is located in very traditional Thai village Salak Phet. There are no souvenir or fruit shops, bars, and night life entertainments. The opposite side of the island can be reached only by expensive private car, rented motorbike or taxi shuttle which drives three times per day. But there are the best Ko Chang wild beaches and waterfalls which can be easily reached on either motorbikes or kayaks. There are the best Thai cafes where local residents cook national food from fresh ingredients especially for your for fair price. There you will meet very friendly smile Thai people who do not speak English but are always ready to help you. The only weak side of this area (not only of the resort but of all village) is cable Internet connection speed, which is sufficient only for basic surfing. Just purchase local SIM-card with 3G packages before staying here. 3G connection was fast enough in this area. But believe me, in this place using Internet will be the last thing you will want to do! P.S. Beware of tasting breakfasts in The Mongrove! You will get addicted to homemade pancakes, jams, freshes and other creative dishes of its cuisine! :)

After arriving at Koh Chang, the Song Tao driver took me to the wrong side of the island and after he realised he drive off and left me in the middle of nowhere. After othe Song Tao drivers refused to take me because it was far and too late, i rang the hotel and spoke to the owner Niko. He said the same thing as the Song Tao drivers, but made me the very generous offer of letting me start my holiday from the next day so i didnt lose any money. I rented a scooter and drove to the hotel the next day. It took around 1 hour 30 minutes to drive there, but the route was very scenic.The east side of the island is very beautiful and secluded, not many foreigners go there. When i arrived at the hotel i spoke to Niko for a while, he is a very friendly man and was very welcoming. The bungalow i stayed in was very beautifully crafted and sat above a fishpond. I opted for a fan bungalow, this was perfectly fine as i was out during the day when it was hot, and it was cool at night as it was by water. The staff are very friendly and drove me to and from their newly opened karaoke bar. All in all i enjoyed my stay here very much and would highly recommend this resort.

We stayed one night at this sweet little resort, situated right on the beach front. The bungalows are nestled amidst lovely and well-kept grounds. Watching the sunset while having dinner was incredible! The staff were friendly, although did not speak much English. There was a bit of miscommunication at breakfast but all ended well. The villas are sweet and simple - clean, well maintained and have everything you need. A great stay.

Picasjo House is a refreshing counterpoint to bland, chain hotels. It's a quirky place which on arrival looks unprepossessing, but don't be fooled by first appearances. The room are large and clean, the internet is fast, and you are right of the side of Salak Phet bay looking out over the water. It's a relaxing and serene setting, abetted by the interesting designs and artworks found in the rooms and around the hotel created by the owner's friend. The people running the place are friendly, laid-back artistic types always ready with a smile or offer of help. I heartily recommend Picasjo for a different, more personal 'hotel' experience, and as a base for exploring the quieter, undeveloped side of Koh Chang Island. .
